Swami Vivekananda Road Improvement Initiative

Why Swami Vivekananda Road?

The Community Walks & AQI Monitoring Exercise is a comprehensive initiative undertaken by the Walking Project over several months to raise awareness and gather data with the ultimate objective of enhancing walkability and air quality in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. From December 2023 to May 2024, Walking Project collaborated with Asar Social Impact Advisors to integrate air quality monitoring and awareness into the Community Walks exercise that Walking Project conducts. This expansion aimed to familiarize participants with the Mumbai Air Pollution Mitigation Plan, air quality metrics, benchmarks for good air quality, and Mumbai's standing relative to global counterparts.

What is the Initiative about?

Walking Project has been consistently working through an ongoing initiative to transform SV Road into a safer, more convenient, and pedestrian-friendly corridor. This effort goes beyond proposals extensive groundwork has already been undertaken, including continuous data collection, on-ground assessments, and direct engagement with local communities. The project involves close collaboration with urban practitioners and government officials to ensure long-term, sustainable improvements. By steadily building a benchmark model that prioritizes pedestrian convenience, safety, and accessibility, Walking Project aims to create an inspiring precedent for similar urban interventions across Mumbai and beyond
